About The Position

The Child Well-Being pathway at the Boston Foundation is seeking an Intern to support its Maternal Health Equity focus area, with a particular emphasis on research, synthesis, and strategic communications to advance systems-level work in maternal and infant well-being. This internship offers an opportunity to work at the intersection of research, policy, and philanthropy, contributing to efforts that strengthen the ecosystem supporting birthing people, infants, and the workforce that serves them. This position will work approximately 7-8 weeks for ~25 hours per week.

Requirements

  • High school completion, or equivalent experience.
  • Interest in maternal health equity, early childhood systems, and health-related social policy.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable insights.
  • Curiosity about philanthropy, systems change, and cross-sector collaboration.
  • Comfort working with both qualitative and quantitative information.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Experience with administrative tasks and time management.
  • Proven computer literacy required (Microsoft 365 familiarity required).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with conducting literature reviews and environmental scans related to maternal health equity, with attention to evidence-based and emerging best practices.
  • Review and analyze portfolio investment data provided by staff and, with guidance from the Child Well-Being team, identify themes, trends, gaps, and opportunities across investments related to early education and care infrastructure strengthening and maternal health equity focus area of the Child Well-Being pathway.
  • Contribute to internal learning by distilling research and programmatic insights into clear summaries, briefs, and presentation materials.
  • Support the development of recommendations for how the Boston Foundation can position its maternal health equity strategy in an evidence-informed and community-centered way.
  • Support the development and content design of a website for the Commonwealth Funders for Birth Equity, including synthesizing existing materials and helping translate complex initiatives into accessible, cohesive messaging.
