About The Position

This internship focuses on providing a comprehensive understanding of process engineering within an ethanol production facility. The intern will gain hands-on experience in interpreting P&IDs, understanding the ethanol production process from cook to distillation, learning about major equipment and piping, and performing equipment sizing. Exposure to relevant software like AutoCAD and Navisworks will also be provided.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a college program related to Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or other Engineering field.
  • Possess excellent computer skills utilizing MS Office products.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, organizational skills.
  • Acts with honesty and integrity.
  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively with senior management.
  • Ability to maintain good relationships with internal and external customers, use tact and diplomacy, and possess a customer service focus.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Manage multiple priorities with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to read P&IDs, including symbols, terminology, numbering, and designation systems.
  • Understand the phases of the ethanol production process (cook, fermentation, distillation) by completing mass and energy balances.
  • Become acquainted with chemicals used in the ethanol process.
  • Learn the purpose and function of major equipment.
  • Acquire basic knowledge of the control scheme.
  • Learn about different types of equipment (e.g., heat exchangers, pumps) and materials used in their manufacturing and in piping.
  • Learn to size pumps and pipes using the Cameron Hydraulic Data book and software like Pipe Flow Expert.
  • Be exposed to AutoCAD and Navisworks (navigation only).
