About The Position

The Vermont Department of Labor is seeking a motivated Policy Intern to join our team in Montpelier. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in policy research, analysis, and development within a state government setting. As a Policy Intern, you will work closely with the Department's Policy Director to support initiatives that shape labor policies and workforce strategies in Vermont.

Requirements

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise reports.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
  • Interest in labor issues, economic policy, and public sector administration.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Nice To Haves

  • Previous coursework or experience in policy analysis, legislative affairs, or government relations.
  • Knowledge of Vermont state government structure, policies, and priorities.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in workforce development, labor economics, or related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting research and analysis on the labor market, workforce development programs, and legislative proposals.
  • Draft policy briefs, memos, and reports summarizing research findings and recommendations.
  • Monitor and track legislative and regulatory developments related to labor policies.
  • Monitor legislative hearings and prepare accurate, timely notes to keep leadership informed.
  • Support stakeholder engagement efforts by preparing materials for meetings, forums, and public hearings.
  • Collaborate with departmental staff on special projects and initiatives as assigned.
  • Provide administrative support to the policy team, including notetaking, data entry, and document management.
