About The Position

The City of Tualatin is offering an opportunity to learn about the daily operations of the Juanita Pohl Center Meal Program funded under the Older Americans Act. This role provides hands-on experience in congregate meal service, with an emphasis on regulatory compliance, nutrition standards, and programs and services that promote nutrition education, wellness, and social engagement among older adults. The Nutrition Program Intern will support nutrition education and community engagement activities for older adults through presentations, cooking demonstrations, food tastings, and educational materials. Responsibilities include assisting with participant outreach, data collection, meal program reporting, surveys, and recordkeeping. The intern will also help promote the meal program within the community and support efforts to engage underserved populations. This position provides hands-on experience in nutrition program coordination, participant engagement, data management, and compliance within a publicly funded aging services program.

Requirements

• Three years of college education in a related field or recent graduate in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, or related field; or any equivalent combination of experience, training and education which would enable the person to perform the essential functions of the position.
• Ability to read and interpret documents.
• Ability to write reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, employees, volunteers or partners of organization.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Ability to operate a personal computer and related software.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with associates, volunteers, participants, and the general public.
• Ability to maintain records and make reports.
• Ability to present ideas and recommendations clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Possession of a valid state driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Designs and performs in-depth research.
• Compiles data, synthesizes information, creates charts and graphics.
• Performs interviews with various stakeholders, including city staff and staff from other governmental organizations.
• Reviews work processes and identifies opportunities for improvement.
• Presents findings to city staff, City Council, community groups, and/or the public.
• Conducts community engagement at meetings and events.
• Performs general clerical and staff functions, including but not limited to preparing meeting notes, scheduling, maintaining records, and providing information to the public.
• Assisting with participant outreach, data collection, meal program reporting, surveys, and recordkeeping.
• Promote the meal program within the community and support efforts to engage underserved populations.
