About The Position

Minnesota Public Radio is seeking an enthusiastic intern to support the Media Operations team, including audio & video production and master control. This internship is viewed as a great opportunity to bring new perspectives into the team and recruit future employees. The program aims to expose interns to all aspects of audio & video production planning and execution, with opportunities to develop skills in equipment setup, signal flow, audio mixing, video editing, camera operation, distribution systems, and master control. Interns will be welcomed into a lively, creative team, and alumni have translated their experience into media careers.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university, or graduated within the past 18 months.
  • Available full-time (40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.) throughout the internship.
  • Classes or strong experience with audio or video equipment, including microphones, analog and digital processing, studio/venue systems, and stage setup.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Familiarity with professional audio/video equipment and standard cabling types and uses.
  • Ability to learn while doing; expected to move equipment and work side by side with Technical Directors under deadline.
  • Professionalism is required.

Responsibilities

  • Support studio and field production by working directly with Technical Directors and Master Control Specialists to accomplish the logistics of production.
  • Learn equipment setup/operation, signal flow, audio mixing, video editing, and camerawork for studio and remote recording sessions across MPR News, The Current, and YourClassical, as well as live/virtual events.
  • Learn signal flow, broadcast and production systems, automation workflows, archiving, and production support through regular work with the master control team.
  • Collaborate with producers, technical directors, engineers, and industry guests.
  • Help accomplish the logistics of daily productions and distribution.
  • Receive mentoring and training in media best practices.
