POSITION SUMMARY: Advanced Energy is currently seeking Mechanical Design Engineering Interns and Co-Ops to support development activities across our North American design sites. Successful candidates will carry out their internships at Advanced Energy’s sites in Colorado, Minnesota, Massachusetts, or California. They will work with an experienced engineering team, closely collaborating on the development of high-performance, precision, efficient and cost-effective power conversion, metrology, or controls solutions. Only post-graduate candidates will be considered for summer and school-year internships. Candidates should be actively pursuing degree programs at one of the following institutions: University of Colorado, Colorado State University, University of Minnesota, Northeastern University, San Jose State University, or Stanford University.

Requirements

  • Ability to work in a lab environment building, modifying, analyzing, and testing prototypes
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to meet schedule requirements and define priorities without direct supervision
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Windows-based platforms and with computer-based design and analysis tools, working knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Candidates working towards MS or PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • GPA > 3.25

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Solidworks, Pro-E, CFDesign, Flotherm, ANSYS and/or Solidworks Simulation
  • Experience with electronic packaging and/or thermal management focus, but other fields consistent with Advanced Energy’s needs will also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Active participant in a core team to meet schedule, cost, and customer satisfaction goals
  • Assist in the development, testing, and de-bugging of prototype power supply units
  • Analyze test data and reports against functional and performance specifications
  • Interfacing with internal departments to ensure cost and schedule goals are met
  • Design sheet-metal enclosures, stamped and extruded heatsinks, cable assemblies
  • Efficient packaging of electronic circuitry in protective enclosures
  • 3D layout of printed circuit board assemblies
  • Modeling, simulation, and design for thermal, acoustic and vibration performance
  • Prototype testing
