About The Position

The City of Citrus Heights is seeking motivated and enthusiastic Interns and Management Interns to gain hands-on experience in local government administration and contribute to meaningful projects that support the City's operations and the community we serve. This is an excellent opportunity for a current college student or recent graduate interested in public administration, government, business administration, law enforcement, human resources, sustainability, community development, economic development, general services, or a related field. The Intern/Management Intern will work closely with City leadership and staff across multiple departments and will have the opportunity to learn how a municipal organization operates. The ideal candidate is curious, analytical, organized, collaborative, and eager to learn. This position is designed to provide exposure to a broad range of governmental functions while allowing the intern to take ownership of assigned projects. This is a temporary, part-time position limited to a maximum of 960 hours per fiscal year. This position is not eligible for benefits beyond those required by law. Hours will vary depending upon the position and department assigned. The City currently has paid and unpaid (volunteer) positions available. For paid positions, placement is dependent upon qualifications (see the Minimum Qualifications section below). The current pay rate for paid positions is as follows: Intern: $16.90 / Hour Management Intern: $18.59 - $23.24 / Hour You may be a strong candidate for this exciting opportunity if you enjoy: Figuring out how to solve problems. Requirements

  • Intern: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
  • Management Intern: Equivalent to the completion of a Bachelor’s degree with major coursework directly related to the position assigned.
  • Current enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate program from an accredited college or university, a technical or certificate program in a related field, or recent college graduation within the last 12 months, is required.
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing
  • Strong computer skills (specific to the position)
  • Enjoy working with the public
  • Customer service experience
  • An interest in local government and public service
  • Ability to work independently
  • Prior work experience is not required.
  • May need to possess a valid California driver’s license and proof of automobile liability insurance as required by the position.
  • All interns are required to successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation to ensure the highest standards of volunteer service.
