About The Position

This internship focuses on investigating and documenting innovative tooling solutions to support the manufacturing of class 8 heavy-duty trucks, including fastening tools, lifting solutions, automation, fixturing, ground handling, and hand tools. The intern will collaborate with cross-functional production teams to develop new assembly tools and equipment, design new assembly tools using CREO/CATIA, and create assembly drawings. Additionally, the role involves utilizing continuous improvement methods (kaizen) to enhance safety, ergonomics, quality, and efficiency on the assembly line, assisting in the development of web-based systems for inventory management, and supporting competence development activities within the department.

Requirements

  • Must be currently pursuing an Engineering degree and remain fully enrolled in program during the duration of the internship
  • Excellent computer skills; proficient in Excel, Power Point, Word, PowerBI
  • Thrives in a team-based environment
  • Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75
  • Spring interns may work up to 30 hours per week and must be enrolled as full-time student.

  • Preferred Degrees- Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Controls Systems Engineer, Electrical Engineering, or other related field
  • Catia v5 and/or Creo experience is a plus
  • Experience interpreting and creating engineering drawings is a plus
  • Prefer a motivated Junior or Senior in good academic standing

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and document innovative tooling solutions to support manufacturing of class 8 heavy-duty trucks (fastening tools, lifting solutions, automation, fixturing, ground handling, hand tools, etc.)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional production team (safety, logistics, operations, quality, manufacturing engineering, etc) to develop new assembly tools and equipment that will secure product quality while maintaining efficient operations
  • Design new assembly tools in CREO/CATIA, make assembly drawings
  • Utilize continuous improvement methods (kaizen) to improve safety, ergonomics, quality, and efficiency on the assembly line
  • Assist development of web-based systems to improve inventory management of equipment and spare parts
  • Support the competence development activities within the department and develop standard practices for developing and integrating tooling
