About The Position

When you work in an internship role in the Capital Markets department you will have an engaging work experience where you can apply your analytical skills and passion for markets at a leading investment firm while experiencing the dynamic nature of the trading floor environment. This “full-immersion” experience unfolds in a friendly and open environment where you will work side by side with highly experienced investment professionals and more recent graduates. We are looking to fill an intern to join the Hedge Funds and Insurance Linked Securities team of 10 investment professionals, based in Toronto and London. Our mandate is to produce absolute and uncorrelated returns by investing in various hedge fund and ILS strategies, adding diversification to the larger OTPP investment portfolio. As part of a dynamic trading floor environment, You will work closely with portfolio managers on day-to-day investment activities and on longer-term research projects which connect directly to our risk-taking activities.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated passion and curiosity for financial markets and investments.
  • Strong Excel skills and basic programming skills (such as Python).
  • Entrepreneurial thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Desire to work in a stimulating environment and collaborate with peers and managers.
  • Developing leader with excellent analytical, social, and communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, with phenomenal time management, leadership skills, and work ethic.
  • Must be enrolled in 3rd / 4th year of an Undergraduate program or a related Masters’ program.
  • Must be enrolled in a co-op program or returning to your studies after the work term is completed.
  • Legally entitled to work in the country where this role is located.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to code is a nice-to-have asset.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and reporting on key drivers of risk, exposures, and profit/loss across various strategies and managers.
  • Research for new and current investment strategies.
  • Building analytical tools.
  • Interfacing with top-tier hedge fund managers to learn about the hedge fund industry and trading strategies.
  • Participating in a term-length portfolio management case to develop and test investment skills.
  • Exploring the work of other groups by attending networking and lunch-and-learn sessions.
