About The Position

The City of Englewood is seeking an Intern for the Information Technology Department. This internship offers a hands-on approach to learning and applying your degree, providing insights into municipal government and the public sector. Interns will have the chance to network with multiple departments and other interns across the City. The Information Technology Department is responsible for providing analysis, problem-solving, technical assistance, support, and solutions to staff for end-user digital devices, audio-visual equipment, networks, and applications. This includes routine desktop administration, technical implementations, operating system imaging, systems analysis support for City applications, and maintaining asset inventories.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled and pursuing a bachelor's or master's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • Available to work full-time (30-40 hours per week) during the summer (May/June through August/September)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize based on opportunities and effectively multitask
  • Experience using Microsoft Office
  • Detail oriented mindset

  • Valid Colorado driver’s license and a clear or acceptable MVR

Nice To Haves

  • Intern I - High school diploma or GED plus one year of undergraduate studies toward completion of a bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Intern II - Bachelor's degree plus one year of experience in specific department or progress toward completion of a master's degree in a related field
  • Intern III - High school diploma or GED plus at least one year of undergraduate studies toward completion of a bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field.
  • Intern IV - Post graduate degree (beyond Master's degree), example: PhD, JD, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Work with IT Operations staff and users to keep systems up-to-date and operating efficiently.
  • Assist with requests from a broad range of users for technical support at a designated location.
  • Effectively communicate with IT Department staff and users in oral and written formats.
  • Prioritize and appropriately escalate issues to assure timely problem resolution. Carry out fact-finding and analysis of problems; determine most effective problem resolution procedures. Suggest, test, and evaluate solutions.
  • Utilize city’s asset management system to manage the desktop OS environment, assets, including but not limited to remote control, patch management, software distribution, operating system deployment, network access protection, and hardware and software inventory.
  • Analyze and resolve computer hardware, software and network issues, repair user workstations, modify configurations.
  • Assist other technical staff members in support of major or complex projects. Write documentation for related projects.
  • Learn about city technology standards and policies. Monitor and ensure the proper and effective use of the City’s technology investments and user adherence to City usage policies and procedures. Notify management of security and appropriate usage violations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and required.
