About The Position

The Cannabis, Commercial Tobacco, and Vaping Prevention (CCTV) unit is seeking two Graduate Interns (Intern IIIs) to develop a resource library of youth curriculum, frameworks, campaigns, and other resources. These resources will focus on increasing protective factors and reducing risk factors related to youth substance use. The interns will assess current CCTV grantee resources, conduct a landscape analysis of potential resources, and summarize their components and merits. The goal is to build capacity for Community Change Grantees and create a resource for community partners. This internship offers exposure to prevention practices and evaluation methods at an exciting time for the CCTV unit, which recently received funds from a Juul Settlement to support youth education and programming.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a graduate program or have graduated from an accredited graduate program within the last 6 months with a major in public health, social work, public administration, or related field.
  • Completed introductory classes that cover public health, substance use prevention, youth development, or similar fields.
  • Experience working with diverse communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of equity and social justice principles and practices and ability to apply this knowledge to all areas of the work, including methods, analysis, results interpretation, and dissemination.
  • Detail oriented work ethic with the ability to work quickly and accurately under deadlines, work on a number of tasks simultaneously, and organize and prioritize work in response to changing needs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a diverse team with internal and external collaboration partners.
  • Basic qualitative analysis skills – familiar with analysis methods and process, interpretation of qualitative data including selecting appropriate methods and visualization formats.
  • Ability to prepare and share results with project team to facilitate learning and continuous quality improvement. This may include presentations, reports, and data visualizations.
  • Must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite.
  • Must maintain a home workspace with an internet connection.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an assessment framework to review curriculums, campaigns, frameworks and other resources.
  • Identify youth programming resources currently used by grantees through scheduling and conducting interviews with internal and external partners.
  • Identify additional high-quality resources to assess through literature review.
  • Conduct analysis of resources based on assessment framework.
  • Identify, recruit, and conduct key informant interviews on resources as needed.
  • Design and implement an approach to organize and present the results from the assessment into a resource library.
  • Develop and conduct a presentation for staff and grantees on the final resource library.
  • Potentially join in-person or hybrid meetings with grantees and grantee events to learn about their work.
  • Collaborate with the other Graduate Intern throughout the completion of these duties.
