About The Position

The Office of the Class Deans at Wellesley College is committed to providing holistic advising - from Orientation through Commencement - to all students in order to facilitate their growth and success at Wellesley and beyond. Partnering with campus resources, we help students navigate their academic journey, make informed decisions, and maximize their potential as scholars. Through a lens of inclusive excellence, we promote resources and programs that empower students to navigate challenges and pursue their goals with confidence and purpose. The Office consists of the Director of New Student and Transition Programs, Class Deans, the Associate Dean for Academic Integration and Advising, the Office Manager, Student Assistants, Orientation Coordinators, and Orientation Mentors. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Integration and Advising, the Graduate Intern is a current graduate student who assists in the coordination and execution of the programs and services in the Office of the Class Deans. We are looking for someone with a solid understanding of the importance of holistic advising, strong technology skills, and the ability to engage in multiple projects. As a Graduate Intern, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic advising functions within our office. You will work closely with the Class Deans to assist students in their academic journey and provide valuable administrative support.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program in [relevant field, e.g., Higher Education, Counseling, etc.].
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse individuals.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Google Suites and willingness to learn new software (Workday, Salesforce, etc.).
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer’s sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in academic advising or higher education is desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Class Deans in providing academic advising to undergraduate students.
  • Support projects to transform the front-of-the-house functions in the Class Deans office through implementing Salesforce and other relevant technologies.
  • Respond to student inquiries and provide accurate and timely information regarding academic policies, procedures, and requirements.
  • Help students navigate course selection, registration, and other academic processes.
  • Conduct preliminary degree requirement audits and assist in tracking students' academic progress.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of advising resources, including online tools and informational materials.
  • Collaborate with Class Deans to improve advising practices and enhance the student experience.
  • Serve as an ambassador of the Class Deans Office and interact with students related to advising questions and front-line support they may need.
  • Assist with the supervision of the student assistants in the Office.
  • Assist with the development and facilitation of student training. (For current students in the Office and if we develop a Peer Mentor program)
  • Assist in the communication and marketing efforts of the Office.
  • Assist with on-going assessment of social media engagement, marketing initiatives, and programs.
  • Perform general office functions as required in the Office of the Class Deans, including answering phones, responding to emails, preparing materials, planning events, completing data entry, and other duties as assigned.
