About The Position

This is a part-time internship with a requirement to work onsite two days per week at DLA’s Chicago office. This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience by actively supporting the HR Services and Onboarding Success teams in a dynamic environment focused on employee lifecycle processes and documentation management. This internship is designed for individuals interested in building practical HR skills while contributing to the success of the HR Services and Onboarding Success teams, and supporting the department’s journey toward greater automation and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Solid skills in Microsoft office to include Word and Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • High School or GED
  • Candidate must have an interest in gaining practical work experience.
  • Effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with clients, lawyers, business professionals, and third parties;
  • Produce deliverables, answer phone calls, and reply to correspondence in an efficient and responsive manner;
  • Provide timely, accurate, and quality work product;
  • Successfully meet deadlines, expectations, and perform work duties as required;
  • Foster positive work relationships;
  • Comply with all firm policies and practices;
  • Engage in both physical and sedentary activity, such as (a) working at a computer for extended periods of time, including on-screen reading and typing; (b) participating in digital/virtual conference calls; (c) participating in meetings as needed;
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing demands in a fast-paced environment;
  • Perform all other duties, tasks or projects as assigned.

Nice To Haves

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university program or be no more than 12 months post-graduation from an accredited education degree program.
  • Some previous office or internship experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process and verify New Hire I-9 documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, in partnership with the HR Services and Onboarding Success teams.
  • Process contingent worker contract request via Workday
  • Audit reports of expiring I-9 documentation and coordinate reverification meetings with employees, supporting ongoing compliance efforts.
  • Maintain the New Hire Teams Channel by adding new hires and auditing/removing members after their first month, in collaboration with team stakeholders.
  • Schedule and organize new hire integration meetings with managers and partners to facilitate smooth onboarding experiences.
  • Coordinate employee departure meetings in support of employee transitions.
  • Arrange employee status change meetings (e.g., transition from temporary to regular, lawyer to BP/vice versa) as needed, assisting both teams in managing staff transitions.
  • Audit outstanding Workday transactions and follow up with managers regarding overdue tasks to promote timely completion of HR processes.
