Requirements

  • Third or fourth year college student pursuing a degree in accounting, finance, or related field, or recent graduate.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary component of job/position.
  • Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver’s license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and practices.
  • Skill in the use of basic business math.
  • Skill in the use of computers and technology.
  • Skill in the use of standard office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize duties.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to read basic financial reports.
  • Ability to document procedures.
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions independently.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the budget process improvement work with ongoing monitoring and maintenance of the budget.
  • Assists the Assistant Controller dedicated to the budget process in the development of costs and annual budget preparation (including analysis of historical revenues and expenses).
  • Prepares journal entries, reviews reports, and verifies transactions for accuracy.
  • May involve reconciliation, support of accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Gathers and processes budget details to provide the basis for interim and year-end financial statements and reports; and additional projects as needed.
  • Makes recommendations and assists in the implementation of initiatives to enhance/streamline processes and better utilize technology.
  • Prepares and maintains organized procedures and documents process improvement steps.
  • Shares process improvement techniques with other Finance staff and maintains critical connections with other County Staff.
  • Performs other duties as required.
