About The Position

As a Finance Intern at Karman, you will gain exposure to financial planning and analysis (FP&A) within a publicly traded aerospace and defense company. You will also be involved in program finance and contract performance management, manufacturing cost analysis and operational finance, executive reporting and strategic decision-making processes, and government contracting and aerospace industry financial practices. This role involves cross-functional collaboration with engineering, operations, supply chain, and executive leadership teams.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Strong academic record with a minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.
  • Experience using Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or similar analytical tools.
  • Interest in aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, space systems, missile defense, or national security programs.
  • Understanding of government contracting, FAR/DFARS regulations, or cost accounting principles is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and intellectual curiosity.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports, forecasts, and management presentations.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities for business units, manufacturing operations, and corporate functions.
  • Analyze operating expenses, labor utilization, production costs, and manufacturing performance metrics.
  • Assist with program financial reporting, including revenue, profitability, backlog, and contract performance analysis.
  • Develop and maintain Excel-based financial models to support strategic planning and operational decision-making.
  • Support capital expenditure analysis and return-on-investment evaluations for manufacturing and production initiatives.
  • Partner with accounting teams to reconcile financial results and investigate budget-to-actual variances.
  • Assist in preparing executive-level dashboards and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Conduct ad hoc analyses supporting business development, operational improvements, and strategic initiatives.
  • Support compliance and reporting requirements associated with government contracts and aerospace industry regulations.
  • Participate in process improvement projects focused on financial reporting, data analytics, and operational efficiency.
