About The Position

Microchip Technology Inc. is seeking a highly motivated Design Intern to join their Data Center Solutions (DCS) business unit. The DCS unit has a broad portfolio of products used in server/storage OEMs and hyperscale datacenters, with applications ranging from Big Data capacity storage to artificial intelligence and machine learning. The intern will work alongside experienced engineers in developing next-generation storage controller SOC products, gaining hands-on experience in developing HW IP and AI tools/flows to enhance design productivity. This is an opportunity for a candidate with design/development career aspirations who can work part-time (up to 25 hours per week) while completing their degree program.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an Electrical and/or Computer Engineering degree program and has reached the Senior level, or actively pursuing post-graduate studies in a related discipline.
  • Familiarity with Verilog, System Verilog, with RTL design as a career growth opportunity.
  • Courses in digital design, computer architecture a must; Digital design projects using Verilog/System Verilog.
  • Good programming / scripting skills with languages such as TCL, Python and Perl.
  • Excellent analytical, communication (written and verbal), and documentation skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and debugging skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to advances in Artificial Intelligence and how AI is applied to design and/or process improvement would be a plus but not mandatory.
  • Preferred graduation date Summer 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Write and maintain RTL for digital logic blocks using industry-standard hardware description languages (e.g., Verilog, System Verilog).
  • Analyze simulation, synthesis, and timing results, identify issues, and collaborate with design and verification engineers to resolve them.
  • Contribute to the development of automated design flows and scripts (e.g., synthesis, lint, CDC, timing).
  • Help design, implement, and integrate AI-based tools and workflows to enhance design efficiency and productivity.
  • Research and evaluate new AI technologies and methodologies applicable to ASIC/IP design.
  • Participate in team meetings and technical reviews.
