About The Position

The EMS SCADA Engineer – Intern will assist the EMS/SCADA team with the support, implementation, modification and maintenance of the Energy Management System (EMS)/Generation Management System (GMS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and various other supporting applications. This position will operate in a cross functional capacity with daily interactions with EMS/SCADA Personnel, TPS Control Room Operators, Energy Managers , IT Infrastructure, Network teams and customers.

Requirements

  • Students pursuing an Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Instrumentation or Telecommunications, Networking), Computer Science or Information Systems
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. The Company is not able to take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time for this position or commit to doing so in the future for individuals with current authorization to work via, for example, CPT or OPT, and would need sponsorship in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient in the use of Excel and Microsoft word
  • Experience in C, Python, SQL and knowledge of any database programming languages will be utilized but not required

Responsibilities

  • Understand and implement various SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) protocol communications to remote devices and control centers
  • Understand and implement various ISO (Independent System Operator) telemetry requirements to maintain grid operator reliability and compliance
  • Develop and maintain SCADA displays and one-lines
  • Implement solutions based on various customers’ requirements and deliver the solutions within expected timelines
  • Perform ongoing system maintenance, administration, and upgrade activity
  • Troubleshoot and resolve various levels of complex and diverse market and operational issues
  • Work directly with IT maintaining, improving, and implementing communications, hardware, and software infrastructure
  • Support internal business units and external customer business and data needs
  • Communicate effectively with field personnel, contractors, vendors, and ISO contacts
  • Produce deliverables with deadlines and ensure various project completion
  • Utilize documented procedures and processes to achieve system reliability and efficiency
  • Develop tools and processes and propose new ideas and innovative solutions to improve the quality of services delivered by EMS team.
  • Utilize latest and advanced technologies to define and solve problems
  • Dependable, reliable, and predictable attendance is required
  • Apply innovative thinking and modern technologies, including AI‑assisted tools, to help identify, define, and solve complex EMS operational and technical problems.
  • Assist in improving EMS processes by identifying inefficiencies, proposing improvements, and developing scalable solutions that reduce manual effort and error risk.
  • Use data‑driven approaches to analyze EMS systems, telemetry, and workflows, and translate insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Support the development of intelligent tools, automation, or decision‑support capabilities that enhance troubleshooting, system reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with EMS engineers, Operations, and IT teams to translate real‑world operational challenges into practical engineering or automation solutions.
  • Document solutions, processes, and lessons learned to ensure knowledge transfer, repeatability, and long‑term value to the EMS team.
  • Demonstrate responsible and effective use of emerging technologies, ensuring accuracy, validation, and alignment with EMS reliability and governance expectations.
