Intern – Electrodeposition

Syenta•Tempe, AZ

About The Position

Syenta is seeking a Stamp Plating and Etching Intern to join its Arizona technical team. This six-month, part-time internship is limited to up to 20 hours per week. The intern will work directly on processes central to Syenta’s Localized Electrochemical Manufacturing (LEM) technology, running experiments, developing technical understanding, and contributing ideas. Senior experts will provide mentorship and support the intern’s development. Syenta develops manufacturing products for advanced semiconductor packaging that combine patterning and metallization in a single tool. Its LEM technology enables high-speed, high-resolution metallization while reducing costs, energy use, emissions, and waste. The intern will contribute to process development and experimental work, maintain reliable laboratory records, analyze results, collaborate with the broader team, and take ownership of assigned projects.

Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to laboratory work.
  • Commitment to maintaining clear and accurate records.
  • Ability and motivation to learn deeply and build real technical understanding.
  • A track record of hands-on project work and being able to describe projects in detail.
  • Analytical problem-solving ability, including breaking down problems and making progress when the path forward is unclear.
  • Confidence to contribute ideas around senior team members and willingness to learn from them.
  • Genuine interest in growing with a fast-paced, innovative company and contributing to transformative technology.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to semiconductor, MEMS, electrochemistry, PCB, or advanced materials processes.
  • Familiarity with metrology tools such as optical microscopy, SEM, AFM, or conductivity measurements.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to development of Syenta’s LEM and stamp pre-plating processes through hands-on laboratory work, experimental runs, and team discussions.
  • Execute parameter sweeps, design-of-experiments runs, and repeatability tests, taking increasing ownership of experimental design over time.
  • Prepare substrates, consumables, and materials; operate prototype equipment with guidance; and perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Document novel processes, observations, and ideas to contribute to intellectual property generation.
  • Maintain a safe, clean working environment and follow laboratory safety procedures.
  • Keep clear and accurate records of laboratory work to support reproducibility and knowledge sharing.
  • Assist with data analysis, plotting, and summary reporting.
  • Identify anomalies and unexpected results and work with the team to investigate them.
  • Collaborate with the broader team to achieve technical milestones and resolve issues.
  • Share progress updates with the LEM team and contribute to discussions about results and next steps.
  • Support preparation and delivery of demonstrations of Syenta’s LEM technology to visitors, partners, and investors.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and deliverables through completion.
  • Proactively identify and communicate potential improvements to performance or workflows.

Benefits

  • Mentorship from senior experts invested in the intern’s development.
  • Opportunity to contribute to breakthrough manufacturing technology and see work translate into real-world impact.
