About The Position

The American Heart Association's Internship Program provides college students with hands-on experience in various facets of a non-profit, voluntary health organization. This specific internship is with the Development Team, supporting the Heart Walk campaign and signature Heart & Stroke Walk events. The intern will play a key role in driving the success of these campaigns by assisting with planning, execution, and follow-up, with a focus on maximizing participant engagement. The Association offers resources for work-life harmonization, including access to Heart U (corporate university) and local/national training and support. Requirements

  • Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in business, communications, nonprofit management, or event management.
  • Must be comfortable with outreach (phone calls & emails to current and prospective participants).
  • Experience/interest in promotion, sales, or fundraising.
  • Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working professionally with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office programs – Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong proficiency in Canva.
  • Reliable WiFi Connection and reliable transportation.
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the development and implementation of fundraising activities and administrative support for the Sacramento/Stockton-Modesto market.
  • Working with staff and volunteers to support fundraising campaigns, focusing on the Heart Walk campaign and increasing participation and engagement with the Sacramento and Stockton-Modesto Heart & Stroke Walk events.
  • Conducting external visits, calls, and emails to help with recruitment, engagement, management, and stewardship of current and prospective donors and volunteers.
  • Supporting the development and updating of marketing materials for campaigns, including save the dates, invitations, social media posts, volunteer rosters, and other needed collateral to assist in campaign promotion.
  • Assisting with volunteer management, including prepping for and attending externally facing meetings (both in-person and virtual).
  • Conducting prospect research to generate new leads and compile information for fundraising campaigns.
