About The Position

The SSD Engineering team develops the firmware that powers Micron's industry-leading storage solutions. Working at the intersection of hardware, software, and AI-enabled technologies, the team delivers innovative, high-performance, and reliable SSD products that support data centers, client computing, and emerging AI applications worldwide. As an SSD Firmware Intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers to develop, test, and optimize firmware for Micron's SSD products. This role provides hands-on experience in embedded systems, firmware development, debugging, and AI-assisted engineering workflows while contributing to the performance, quality, and reliability of next-generation storage solutions.

Requirements

  • 0-2 years of relevant experience through internships, research, coursework, academic projects, or software/firmware development experience.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field and returning to school following the internship.
  • Experience programming in C/C++ through coursework, projects, internships, or research activities.
  • Basic understanding of embedded systems, computer architecture, operating systems, or firmware development concepts.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled tools and large language models (LLMs) such as Copilot, Claude, or similar technologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous internship, co-op, research, or project experience in firmware, embedded software, or systems engineering.
  • Familiarity with SSD technology, storage systems, NAND flash memory, or storage protocols.
  • Experience using software development tools such as Git, JIRA, or similar version control and project management platforms.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python for automation, testing, or data analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet project deadlines, and deliver high-quality technical solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with firmware engineers to develop, test, and enhance SSD firmware features and functionality.
  • Debug and resolve firmware issues to improve product performance, reliability, and quality.
  • Create and complete test plans to validate firmware behavior and support product qualification efforts.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvements in software quality and development processes.
  • Use AI-enabled tools and workflows to improve engineering productivity, automate tasks, and accelerate firmware development.
