About The Position

First Merchants is seeking highly motivated, enthusiastic college students for our 12-week paid summer internship program. This internship offers hands-on experience in the financial services industry, working on meaningful projects, receiving mentorship, building relationships, and participating in networking and development events. Interns will also participate in a community service project and present their accomplishments to senior leadership. The internship opportunities are available in various business areas including Credit Administration, Commercial Banking, Consumer Banking, Treasury Management, Private Wealth, Technology, Human Resources, Marketing, Risk, Operations, and other business functions. The Commercial Banking Intern will learn the roles within commercial banking, the products and services the bank provides, assessing credit risk, analyzing financial data, portfolio management, and the team-based credit decision process. They will also learn the commercial banking sales cycle, relationship banking, whole-bank selling techniques, and commercial banking sales management, while gaining hands-on sales experience.

Requirements

  • Be a full-time Bachelor (or higher) degree-seeking student at an accredited college or university.
  • Be available to work 40 hours per week from May 17th- August 6th, 2027.
  • Be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Have demonstrated interest in the industry and/or specific area of interest.
  • Possess a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Be able and willing to travel periodically throughout the First Merchants footprint, if applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Complete trend reports for borrowing base certificates.
  • Complete covenant monitoring and annual credit reviews.
  • Attend and participate in loan committees and opportunity memorandum discussions.
  • Partner with relationship managers on prospecting activities and participate in client calls.
  • Monitor loan maturity dates and recommend renewal strategies.
  • Participate in a coordinated community service project.
  • Network with Executive and Senior Leadership at our Intern Meet & Greet event.
  • Present a summary of their experience at the conclusion of the internship program.
