About The Position

The Compliance Intern will provide assistance to the Compliance Department with various recurring tasks as well as special projects. This internship offers exposure to federal banking regulations, regulatory examinations, monitoring programs, and consumer protection requirements. The intern will learn how Compliance, Risk, Audit, and business units collaborate to manage risk and meet regulatory obligations, gaining an understanding of the lifecycle from regulation to bank process, control, testing, exception, and corrective action. The role also involves participating in learning and job-shadowing opportunities across Compliance, including BSA, Fraud, and Operational Risk, as appropriate. The intern will perform other duties as assigned and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).

Requirements

  • The internship will run for Summer of 2027 beginning mid-May and ending early August.
  • Able to work a 40-hour work week, Monday-Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • Must reside local to Effingham, IL and report to the Effingham office.
  • Enrolled in a degree program with courses of study including Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, Economics, or a related field at a college or university with at least 2 years completed.
  • Strong analytical ability, attention to detail, curiosity, and willingness to learn.
  • Comfort researching unfamiliar subjects and summarizing findings.
  • Works well in team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to learn and use new software and programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and working with data is preferred.
  • Exposure to artificial intelligence tools, including ChatGPT, is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Support compliance monitoring, regulatory research, administrative projects, and the development of regulatory testing and reporting resources.
  • Assist with developing regulatory testing, checklists, and reporting structures.
  • Support process improvements and the development of procedures related to compliance testing and monitoring.
  • Research state-specific regulations that may affect Midland as the Bank grows and help organize findings into a working reference document.
  • Assist with regulatory research and summarize findings on unfamiliar topics in a clear and useful format.
  • Gain exposure to federal banking regulations, regulatory examinations, monitoring programs, and consumer protection requirements.
  • Learn how Compliance, Risk, Audit, and business units work together to control risk and meet regulatory obligations.
  • Develop an understanding of the progression from regulation and requirement through bank process, control, testing, exception, and corrective action.
  • Participate in learning and job-shadowing opportunities across Compliance, including BSA, Fraud, and Operational Risk, as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
