About The Position

Are you a creative communicator with an interest in public service? Do you enjoy writing, designing, and engaging with the community? If so, we're looking for you. This internship provides hands-on experience in public sector communications while contributing to meaningful community initiatives. You'll build your portfolio, develop professional skills, and gain insight into how essential public services are communicated and delivered.

Requirements

  • Education equivalent to a high school diploma and currently in pursuit of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Sociology, Anthropology, History, Economics, Community Development, or a related field
  • Broad knowledge of the principles and procedures of urban planning and community development
  • Ability to work on several projects or initiatives simultaneously
  • Microsoft Office and Teams proficiency
  • Ability to manage schedules, spreadsheets, participant tracking, and event documentation

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Indiana Driver's License (if operating City vehicle)

Responsibilities

  • Interact with the public, City and county staff, City officials, and outside agencies.
  • Research planning-related issues to assist in preparing documents and reports.
  • Assist staff with various day-to-day tasks associated with other planning initiatives.
  • Attend meetings outside typical business hours.
  • Assist with the coordination of public outreach meetings and activities.
