Intern/Co-op – Geotechnical Engineering (Spring 2027)
About The Position
Langan is seeking a Geotechnical Engineering Intern/Co-op to join its collaborative team in Parsippany, New Jersey. The role assists with technical aspects of a variety of geotechnical projects, ranging from small to large scale. The intern will work with geotechnical leadership and gain exposure to site feasibility studies, which may include field work, technical report preparation and calculations, pre-construction conditions documentation, and design plans and specifications. Travel may be required depending on business needs and project assignments. Housing and relocation assistance are not provided for internship/co-op positions.
Requirements
- Actively pursuing a four-year or advanced degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical and multitasking capabilities, and sound judgment.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
Nice To Haves
- Geotechnical coursework is preferred.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater is preferred.
- Preference will be given to students currently in their junior or senior year or pursuing an MS degree.
Responsibilities
- Assist with planning and executing field investigations, including logging borings and test pits, collecting samples, performing field tests, and collecting and recording data.
- Observe foundation and earthwork construction activities and monitor conformance with construction documents, including plans and specifications.
- Identify and implement solutions to field and/or laboratory problems.
- Prepare standard logs and field forms, including drilling and test pit logs, field investigation dailies, and chain of custody logs.
- Conduct file reviews, site reconnaissance, and document searches.
- Perform calculations, learn to perform engineering analyses, and learn geotechnical engineering software.
- Prepare report exhibits, figures, and plans using AutoCAD.
- Prepare reports documenting field investigations and analytical results.
- Perform other duties as requested.
