About The Position

HNTB’s Aviation Planning + Environmental team is currently seeking highly qualified candidates for an Intern position during Summer 2027. A successful candidate will demonstrate an enthusiasm for aviation, solid critical thinking skills, and a desire to explore the multi-disciplinary workstreams that shape the airports of tomorrow. Selected candidates will have access to excellent mentorship, professional development and skills growth. Positions are available in either our Boston or San Francisco offices. Relocation and housing are not provided for these positions. Aviation planning involves critical-thinking problem-solvers who tackle any question that comes their way and continually build trust through exceptional client service. Our work with airport owners and airline clients across the country involves carrying out a wide variety of analyses across multiple disciplines, including landside, terminal, airside, airspace, environmental, land use, and financial/advisory services. On any given day, we’re delivering on master plans, environmental permitting, gate layouts, curbside studies, terminal modernizations, and so much more. Requirements

  • Enrolled in a related undergraduate or graduate program

Nice To Haves

  • Rising Undergraduate Senior (Class of 2028) or Graduate level student. Common disciplines include Civil Engineering, Architecture, Aviation Management, Urban Planning, or related field. We welcome non-traditional majors with technical prowess.
  • Enthusiasm for solving aviation-themed challenges
  • Internship or work experience with airports, airlines, transportation authorities, or related organizations.
  • Excellent communication and critical thinking skills
  • Strong competency with AutoCAD, design programs such as Rhinoceros, Revit, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, or data analysis languages such as Python or R.

Responsibilities

  • Assists project team members with various support tasks.
  • Conducts basic research and data collection.
  • Maintains records, collections and files related to specific projects.
  • Assist in the development of graphics, presentation materials and reports.
  • Performs other duties assigned.
