About The Position

Kimley-Horn is looking for Planning students to join our San Jose, California (CA) Aviation Planning team in Summer 2027! This is not a remote position.

Requirements

  • In the process of receiving a Planning Degree (Bachelors or Masters) from an accredited program in one of the following majors: City and Regional Planning, Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Aviation Planning.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of aviation planning and strategy studies for state DOTs and airport clients, including: State aviation system plans, Aviation economic impact analyses, Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) planning initiatives, Airport business plans, master plans, and Airport Layout Plans (ALPs).
  • Conduct research, data collection, and analysis to inform planning recommendations and policy decisions.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and well-structured technical reports, memoranda, and presentation materials.
  • Support project managers in organizing tasks, tracking deliverables, and ensuring timely completion of assignments.
  • Coordinate with internal team members and external stakeholders, including state aviation agencies, airport sponsors, and industry partners.
  • Demonstrate strong follow-through by proactively closing the loop on assigned tasks and communicating status updates.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment while taking ownership of individual work products.
  • Apply GIS and other analytical tools (as applicable) to support planning and visualization efforts.
