About The Position

Alkeus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a clinical-stage biotech company focused on the development of innovative therapies to treat serious diseases of the eye with high unmet need. Based in Cambridge, Mass., Alkeus was founded in 2010, and since that time has been developing its lead compound, gildeuretinol acetate (ALK-001). Designated as a breakthrough therapy and granted orphan drug status by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, gildeuretinol is being evaluated in multiple clinical trials for the treatment of Stargardt disease and geographic atrophy (GA) secondary to age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a leading cause of blindness in the U.S. The Finance & Accounting Intern will support the Accounting and Finance team with a variety of operational, analytical, and administrative projects. This internship provides hands-on exposure to real-world accounting and finance processes, including vendor management, employee expense management, budgeting support, and general accounting activities. The intern will work closely with team members to ensure accurate financial processing and timely support of monthly finance initiatives.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
Experience with Microsoft Excel
Familiarity with financial statements and key performance metrics
Demonstrated record of strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience translating complex concepts for various audiences
Demonstrated record of intellectual curiosity, innovation and creative problem solving with an entrepreneurial spirit
Ability to lead fast-paced projects with a keen sense of urgency to get the job done well
Evidence of "hands-on" experience and expertise
Proven and successful track record as a team-player and collaborator in small working environments
Highest levels of professionalism, confidence, personal values and ethical standards

Responsibilities

Assist the procurement team with the maintenance of vendor records in Airbase, including ad hoc vendor related projects such as validating the existing vendor database in preparation for transition to a new procure to pay (P2P) system.
Support accounts payable team with the maintenance of vendor bank account setups, and resolution of outstanding vendor issues.
Manage the invoices mailbox, including reviewing incoming invoices and entering them into Airbase for processing.
Assist the accounting team with daily tasks related to the expense reporting system (Concur), including reviewing employee expense reports for compliance with company travel and expense policies.
Maintain the weekly finance and accounting team agenda and take meeting minutes.
Assist the accounting team with monthly close activities as needed, preparing supporting schedules and reconciliations.
Support the finance team with budgeting and forecasting activities as needed.
Contribute to ad hoc finance and accounting projects to support the broader finance team.
Assist with various system implementations and enhancements (e.g., NetSuite and other finance systems) as assigned.
Deliver on other related projects as assigned.
