About The Position

The Nisqually Indian Tribe is offering two paid summer internships for Nisqually Tribal Members who are current undergraduate students. Interns will gain hands-on experience in the Tribal Legal Department and with Intergovernmental Affairs, developing practical skills while supporting the Tribe's governance and community. Interns will support a wide range of projects, including legal research, writing, document review, attending meetings, working with the Nisqually Tribal Council, and observing hearings in Nisqually Tribal Court. Interns will gain familiarity with Tribal Codes, Policies, and the functioning of the Nisqually Tribal government and business enterprises. Interns will learn the role of the Legal Department in supporting Tribal Council, Administrators, Departments, and the Court. Interns will also gain familiarity with intergovernmental affairs and government-to-government relationships. Positions are open to Nisqually Tribal Members who are current undergraduate students and have completed at least four semesters (6 quarters) of full-time coursework at an accredited college or university. Internships will run for 10 weeks, beginning June 29, 2026. The Intern 2 assists in a variety of administrative or research-oriented projects in a Tribal department. The purpose of this position is to provide college students or those who have recently completed an Associate's degree with employment experience with the Tribe or in a field specific to their course of study. Incumbents will receive training in department procedures and may be assigned productive tasks and assignments in a variety of professional areas. Internships at this level are intended for technical work or for those that require some post high school training or education. Internships are temporary and typically are only filled for special short-term projects having an established completion date, during vacation periods or school breaks.

Requirements

  • Nisqually Tribal Members only
  • Current undergraduate students
  • Completed at least four semesters (6 quarters) of full-time coursework at an accredited college or university
  • Knowledge of proper grammatical construction; sentence and paragraph development; basic mathematics.
  • Ability to follow directions; comprehend directives and regulations; work with others; conduct research; compile written reports; speak effectively.
