Intermediate Project Engineer
About The Position
Hydro One is seeking an Intermediate Project Engineer to join their team in Toronto. This role involves preparing engineering designs of average complexity and assisting Senior Development Design Engineers with complex design work for transmission lines (115 kV and above), including overhead and underground systems and associated equipment. The position offers a hiring salary range of $3,610.06 - $4,847.80 Bi-weekly. Requirements
- Civil engineering knowledge as it applies to structural design for new structures and calculation of conductor sags and tensions.
- Knowledge of electrical transmission theory for the design of conductor configurations, insulations, and clearances.
- Knowledge of soil mechanics for foundation design.
- General knowledge of computer operation and detailed knowledge of coding language for computer program preparation.
- Equivalent to a 4-year university education in an appropriate field such as civil engineering with a focus on structural engineering.
- Field construction experience to understand equipment limitations and methods for special field problems.
- On-the-job experience to become familiar with structural design work, transmission line structures and foundations, design and layout, mathematical calculations of sags and tensions, vibration problems, clearances, and associated duties.
Responsibilities
- Perform engineering work of average complexity, including preparing estimate specifications, providing technical advice for system expansion, creating detailed designs, and contributing to tender analysis for transmission lines and associated equipment (115 kV and above).
- Collaborate with division colleagues to recommend effective operation and maintenance strategies for new and revised facilities, detailing design potentialities and limitations.
- Participate in studies of designs, specifications, and construction methods to ensure compatibility and optimize economy, including evaluating current methods and recommending improvements.
- Assist senior development design engineers with complex design work as assigned, proceeding with designs based on provided assumptions and instructions.
- Prepare and process computer programs for design calculations, including assembling data, consulting with other utilities and manufacturers, arranging engineering formulas into coding language, modifying existing programs, and cooperating with data processing personnel.
- Perform other duties as required.
