Requirements

  • College diploma (DEC) in theatre production (stage lighting and techniques) or a related field, given the technical nature of the role and the required knowledge of stage lighting.
  • Two (2) years of experience.
  • Advanced grandMA Programming: Proficiency with grandMA syntax, alongside the creation and organization of executors, macros, presets (colours, positions, gobos) and effects.
  • Network and Protocol Management: Ability to configure and network the lighting console with peripheral equipment.
  • Expertise in DMX, Art-Net, sACN and MA-Net.
  • Strong proficiency in patch organization, storage management, file archiving and session backups.
  • Solid command of peripheral equipment, including Nodes, NPUs and VPUs.
  • French (Reading), French (Speaking), French (Writing)

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop lighting effects and movements that align with the production’s artistic and esthetic direction.
  • Co-ordinate your activities with everyone involved to meet production requirements.
  • Select and sync lighting parameters (including textures, colours, dimensions, movements and transitions) with musical content to create the desired atmosphere, visual patterns and effects.
  • Program, test and save lighting cues and parameters to meet production requirements.
  • Operate lighting fixtures, control consoles and peripheral equipment throughout the production.
  • Set up, install and connect cables and connectors used to power technical equipment.
  • Ensure the necessary connections for the control console to interface with and be driven by other technical equipment.
  • Manage console storage by regularly archiving or purging data related to operational activities.
  • Prepare, transport, install, operate, dismantle, put away and perform routine maintenance on technical materials and equipment; ensure all gear is clean, safe and in optimal working order.
  • Assess and maintain technical quality control for all assigned tasks and outputs, taking corrective action as required.
  • Offer recommendations to technical and production staff to achieve the desired results.
  • Assist, as needed, in preparing, installing, dismantling and handling technical materials.
  • Produce technical reports by recording information relevant to your share of work and logging it into the appropriate files where applicable.
  • Take immediate corrective action during a breakdown to restore service and notify the relevant people.
  • Attend planning and production meetings as needed.
  • Perform the duties of a Light Board Operator.
  • Report any equipment damage or defects to the relevant people.
  • Complete the appropriate forms and documents.
  • Share information verbally or in writing to ensure proper followup and to keep others informed.
  • Familiarize other employees with their duties and work environment.
  • Carry out, as needed, all or part of the duties of another job classification within an equivalent or lower salary group, as well as other related duties.
