About The Position

Hatch is looking for a highly motivated intermediate engineer to join our Backfill Group. The role will be located in the Hatch Mississauga or Sudbury office. Hatch is a company with more than 65 years of business and technical expertise in mining, energy, and infrastructure, operating in 150 countries with 10,000 colleagues. The mining and metals teams help clients to safely and sustainably mine the minerals and metals used in our everyday lives. This role will play a part in innovating and optimizing the mining life cycle on greenfield and brownfield facilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2+ years relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining/Materials/Mechanical/Chemical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Demonstrate good written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience developing and reading drawings including process PFD’s, PID’s, General arrangement drawings, site plans; Solid report writing skills.
  • Ability to travel to client’s offices, vendor offices, and to site for periods of time.
  • Must be able to demonstrate basic knowledge with the following: All types of backfill (paste, hydraulic, CRF) system designs, Backfill plant conceptual design equipment sizing and equipment selection, Underground paste and hydraulic fill piping distribution system.

Nice To Haves

  • Operations or previous engineering design or construction experience is an asset.
  • Transient analysis knowledge is an asset.
  • Ability to speak French/Spanish/Portuguese is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Work with project managers to accomplish various tasks associated with backfill projects.
  • Assist in technical design of all types of backfill systems: paste, hydraulic, cemented rockfill (CRF).
  • Design of paste backfill systems and other relevant process units: cement logistics and storage, tailings pipeline, paste plant, boreholes, underground distribution system, booster stations, etc.
  • Backfill mix design and process optimizations and test work.
  • Work with clients, vendors, and other contractors to complete project deliverables.
  • Hydraulic analysis knowledge is required. the candidate shall demonstrate knowledge of working with hydraulic software’s and ability to analysis the results
  • The candidate shall demonstrate the pipeline design capabilities including pipeline sizing, material selection, valve selection, and construction experience.
