About The Position

At Horizon Contracting Group, we believe strong financial leadership drives strong operational performance. We’re looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Intermediate Controller to join our Finance team and help lead the financial operations of a growing, multi-entity organization. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, this role owns the month-end and quarter-end close process while delivering meaningful financial reporting, analysis, and process improvements that support strategic decision-making across the business. We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical accounting expertise with curiosity, initiative, and a genuine interest in automation, systems, and the future of finance.

Requirements

  • CPA designation required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 4–6 years of progressive accounting experience with ownership of month-end close
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and ASPE standards
  • Experience preparing financial statements, reconciliations, and management reporting
  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and financial modelling
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • High attention to detail, organization, and accountability
  • Interest in AI, automation, and process improvement within finance operations

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in construction, contracting, or project-based accounting preferred
  • Spectrum experience is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly and quarterly close processes across multiple entities
  • Review reconciliations and maintain general ledger integrity
  • Prepare financial statements, management reports, and variance analysis
  • Execute consolidation entries and support reporting accuracy across all entities
  • Maintain and improve close schedules, reporting workflows, and accounting processes
  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Perform budget vs. actual analysis and investigate variances
  • Prepare financial models and operational reporting for leadership
  • Monitor overhead allocations, equipment costs, and capital expenditures
  • Maintain weekly cash flow forecasting
  • Support lender reporting, covenant calculations, and surety reporting
  • Maintain tax schedules and support regulatory filings
  • Assist with internal controls, policy improvements, and process documentation
  • Maintain chart of accounts consistency across entities
  • Lead finance automation and AI initiatives from testing through implementation
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting, reconciliation, and close efficiencies
  • Research emerging finance technologies and bring forward practical recommendations
  • Support cross-functional systems integration and process improvements
