About The Position

The Intermediate Civil Engineer – Dry & Wet Utilities is an infrastructure engineering role based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, supporting the delivery of major public & municipal and transportation projects including Airport and LRT projects in Ontario. The candidate’s responsibility is to advance engineering designs on projects from early concept through detailed design and during construction phases. The role focuses initially on dry utilities on and duct banks required to house electrical conduits for different categories of electrical supplies including airfield lighting, NAVAIDs, medium voltage, IT/Comms control and monitoring systems. The role also involves water, storm, and sanitary infrastructure, including water main relocation and sizing, drainage systems, and integration with roadway rehabilitation and reconstruction activities. Work is delivered within public‑sector and regulated municipal environments, requiring coordination with transportation, dry utilities, and other infrastructure disciplines. The ideal candidate brings experience in municipal civil engineering, dry & wet utilities design, with the ability to manage technical scope and budget.

Requirements

  • University degree in Engineering, with an Ing. or P.Eng. designation preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in engineering design within the public & municipal sector.
  • Demonstrated expertise in transportation infrastructure design and delivery.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong analytical, synthesis, and problem-solving abilities, coupled with a detail-oriented mindset.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with team members, stakeholders and clients.
  • Proven organizational capabilities and a flexible, solution-driven approach to challenges.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Construction experience in the utility sector is considered an asset.
  • French considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with rail and transit projects including construction, considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Project Manager, the Civil/Utilities Lead, will be responsible for engineering of utilities on Major Projects in Canada.
  • Engineer civil / utilities components of major projects from inception to completion (this could include but, is not limited to, dry utilities including water main relocation and sizing, storm and sanitary design, as well as supporting other transportation activities such as road rehabilitation/reconstruction and drainage improvements).
  • Strong engineering design knowledge in alignment design including working in a 2D and 3D CAD software including Civil3D or other BIM software platforms
  • Resolve conflicts through clash detection and be familiar with Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE), a professional practice that investigates and maps underground utilities as defined by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE 38).
  • Advancing projects from concept to construction, ensuring compliance with standards and client needs.
  • Resolve conflicts to maintain efficiency and collaboration.
  • Prepare technical designs, specifications, reports, and proposals.
  • Understand industry trends while building strong client relationships.
  • Participate in RFQ and RFP proposals, delivering innovative, client-focused solutions.
  • Manage project budgets and monitor financial performance.
  • Adhere to schedules to ensure on-time delivery and alignment with goals.
