About The Position

The Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for a designated group of patients in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, and standards. The IMCU RN provides high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to patients who require more frequent monitoring and nursing intervention, but who are not critical enough to require intensive care.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse in the State of Texas
  • One (1) year of experience in medical-surgical telemetry or intermediate care unit (IMCU)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certified
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified
  • Demonstrated EKG competency within (60) days of hire
  • Strong assessment and clinical judgment skills.
  • Strong clinical reasoning and ability to anticipate complications and act quickly.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making in high-stress, time-sensitive situations.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patients and tasks efficiently.
  • Effective and professional communication with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Proficient in EMR systems and basic computer skills.
  • Proficient in telemetry monitoring, recognizing arrhythmias, and initiating appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Ability to safely handle rapidly changing patient conditions and initiate emergency response protocols.
  • Familiarity with intermediate care nursing principles, including step-down and telemetry-level care.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care to a variety of complex medical and post-surgical patients.
  • Monitor and interpret vital signs, cardiac rhythms, oxygen levels, and neurological status.
  • Administer medications, IV therapy, and treatments as prescribed.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physicians, respiratory therapists, and case management.
  • Recognize and respond to early signs of patient deterioration.
  • Document patient care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, procedures, and post-discharge care.
  • Maintain compliance with infection control, patient safety, and quality standards.
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development.
  • Perform other related tasks as needed.
