About The Position

BDO's Toronto office is seeking an Intermediate Accountant to join its Finance & Operations team within the Business Services and Outsourcing practice. This is a new role where the successful candidate will support day-to-day accounting operations for various clients, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance. The role involves preparing financial statements, journal entries, and account reconciliations, assisting clients with budgeting and cash flow, and contributing to month-end and year-end close activities. The position requires maintaining organized financial documentation for audit readiness, identifying process improvements, and communicating regularly with clients to build trusted relationships. Travel to client sites is expected, typically monthly or bi-weekly.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in Accounting or Finance, with CPA prerequisites completed or in progress, or equivalent experience.
  • 1-2 years of accounting experience, ideally in public accounting, government, or client-service environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to teach and support clients of varying financial skill levels.
  • High attention to detail and a willingness to learn and grow within a supportive team environment.
  • Comfortable working independently and traveling to client sites as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to or interest in Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) and private clients (ASPE) is an asset but not required — training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day accounting operations for a variety of clients, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance.
