About The Position

Ford's Electric Vehicles, Digital and Design (EVDD) team is responsible for delivering the company's vision of a fully electric transportation future. This team is customer-obsessed, entrepreneurial, and data-driven, dedicated to providing an industry-leading customer experience for electric vehicle buyers and owners. The Interior Systems Engineer will be responsible for concept development and detailed design of cabin systems through multiple stages of development, including conceptualizing, designing, engineering, developing, and supporting the launch of full vehicle interior components.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience designing, developing, and releasing one or more interior subsystems and adjoining parts including component manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • 5+ years of experience using 3D CAD software collaboratively (NX, Catia, 3DX, etc.).
  • 2+ years of team lead experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in the production release process.
  • 3+ years of experience in a factory setting launching a new product.
  • System-level management experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • Excellent understanding of GD&T standards.
  • High level of expertise and proficiency with Catia, Enovia, or similar tools including drawing and modeling practices and methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience building and launching automotive products.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications and other information management tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using Confluence, Jira, Asana, or other project management tools.
  • An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high-performing team.
  • A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Create and develop interior system requirements and specifications while developing geometry and engineering execution in conjunction with design, supply chain, and other core teams.
  • Create vehicle-aligned component and system targets for function, cost, weight, and investment.
  • Develop 3D geometry and innovative design concepts that solve challenging crash load cases while balancing construction, material, and manufacturing methods.
  • Optimize concepts and designs with analytical and physical assessments, ensuring conformation to federal regulations governing assigned systems.
  • Deliver world-class craftsmanship and fit/finish through the proper implementation of GD&T.
  • Develop, study, and implement novel construction techniques and materials, then drive them to production feasibility.
  • Enable effective communications with Studio, Packaging, Advanced Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supplier activities to deliver optimal design solutions.
  • Support presentations of concepts and status to senior management and internally to Company personnel.
