About The Position

Denver Christian High School is seeking a Christ-centered, experienced High School Theatre Director to inspire, guide, teach, and shape the lives of students while directing three main stage productions. The role involves helping students grow closer to God and become stronger performers, allowing Christ to shine through them. The director will collaborate with a team of directors, parents, and students to continue growing the high school theatre program. This is a part-time position, primarily after school hours.

Requirements

  • At least 3-5 years of Directing Experience
  • Demonstrates expertise in knowledge and teaching of dramatics.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

  • Valid Colorado Teaching Certificate in Musical Theatre or Theatre

Responsibilities

  • Promote the theatre program to students and the school community, developing and implementing recruitment/outreach programs.
  • Work with the Marketing Director to promote upcoming events/productions.
  • Help run the high school drama club and chapter of the International Thespian Society with student officers.
  • Communicate professionally and timely with students and parents regarding theatre expectations and schedules.
  • Contribute to the Performing Arts Handbook.
  • Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify student eligibility.
  • Ensure student safety by adhering to stage safety and school rules.
  • Conduct auditions and rehearsals from a learning perspective, in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Select casts and assign parts with equitable systems.
  • Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for student development.
  • Integrate faith into rehearsals through prayer, devotions, and discussions from a Christian perspective.
  • Teach acting principles, techniques, enunciation, diction, voice development, and dialects.
  • Discuss and demonstrate vocal and body expression for acting styles, character development, and personality projection.
  • Rehearse students to master their parts.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment.
  • Prepare lessons that accommodate individual student differences.
  • Produce and direct plays for school and public performances.
  • Select scripts for production with approval.
  • Secure and reserve rehearsal and performance facilities.
  • Manage a budget with the Performing Arts Director, submitting budget requests and ensuring fees are paid.
  • Maintain accurate records of all expenses and receipts.
  • Assign non-performing students to backstage production tasks (scenery, properties, costuming, lighting, sound).
  • Work with the Performing Arts Director on scheduling high school, district, and community activities.
  • Organize and implement theatre trips, arranging transportation, lodging, and meals.
  • Oversee the organization and storage of theatrical units and school-owned equipment.
  • Organize, plan, and direct respective plays, including publicity, programs, costume/properties, lighting/sound design, set design/construction, ushering, and ticket sales.
  • Develop a rehearsal schedule that co-exists with other extracurriculars.
  • Meet regularly with the Performing Arts Director to set and review goals.
  • Submit a year-end report including participant lists, awards, summary of activities, and recommendations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or administrative staff.
