About The Position

Reporting to the Manager, Employment & Training, the Coordinator Employment & Training is responsible for supporting the Haisla Nation Council’s employment and training programs that aim to enhance the economic well-being of community members by ensuring access to relevant training, education, and job opportunities. This includes providing guidance and support to community members with their job search, career planning, and skill development efforts; assessing the individual needs for assistance, such as rehabilitation, financial aid, or further training; maintaining accurate and up to date records; and collaborating with community members, external partners, and government agencies to ensure the programs meet the needs of the community. The Haisla Nation is the band government of the Haisla people. Our mission is to build a powerful, prosperous and proud community, healthy in mind, body and spirit. We are about 1962+ people, with approximately 532 living in Haisla (Kitamaat Village). We have lived off the land and waters of our traditional territory for thousands of years, and it remains the focus of all we do.

Requirements

Highschool diploma or equivalent.
Career Development or Adult Education certification, or related post-secondary certificate.
1 to 3 years of recent related experience.
Experience working for a band government or Indigenous organization an asset.
Knowledge of Indigenous history with formalized education systems, residential school and on-going inter-generational effects specific to education and social programming and familiarity with Haisla and Henaksiala history, culture, goals and aspirations.
Ability to establish and maintain respectful, cooperative and productive working relationships with a variety of individuals.
Comfortable working both alone and in a team environment.
Strong proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and various databases, search engines and Outlook/email.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills with an attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to work collaboratively with and influence a diverse group of individuals.
Creativity, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sense of humor.
Passion for ongoing professional development and growth.
Satisfactory completion of criminal records check (with vulnerable sector screening if relevant).

Responsibilities

Provide individualized career guidance to help individuals identify their strengths, set career goals, and create actionable plans to achieve them.
Assess individual needs for assistance, such as rehabilitation, financial aid, or additional training.
Provide job search assistance, resume writing, interview preparation, and job placement services to connect members with meaningful employment.
Work with the Manager, Employment & Training to identify specific employment and training needs within the community and create tailored programs that reflect the community’s cultural and economic context.
Monitor participant progress and achievement of program goals, and make improvements as needed.
Maintain accurate records of participants, programs, and outcomes to evaluate the success of initiatives.
Assist in the development of policies and strategies to promote employment and skill-building within the community.
Collaborate with other departments to ensure comprehensive support for community members.
Participate in the annual performance review process and develop and carry out an annual professional development plan.
Other relevant duties as assigned.
