About The Position

A private equity-backed healthcare organization has an immediate need for an experienced Interim Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations and strengthen financial reporting across a complex, multi-entity organization. Based in the Franklin, Tennessee area, this is a primarily in-office, highly visible role reporting directly to the CFO. The position requires a hands-on accounting leader who can quickly take ownership of the close and reporting processes while effectively leading an established accounting team. The Controller will own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, ensure timely GAAP-compliant financial reporting, and oversee healthcare revenue recognition in a complex multi-payer reimbursement environment. The role will also have significant responsibility for cash flow analysis, budgeting, lender covenant compliance, audit management, internal controls, technical accounting, and acquisition integration. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is the company's ERP, and the Controller will serve as the primary accounting system owner.

Requirements

  • Healthcare accounting experience required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with supervisory or management responsibility
  • Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and accrual accounting
  • Experience with multi-entity organizations and consolidated financial reporting
  • Experience with healthcare revenue recognition and third-party reimbursement accounting
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with the CFO, executive leadership, operations, and investor stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • EMS, ambulance services, or similar healthcare reimbursement experience strongly preferred
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Public accounting or audit experience, particularly Big Four or a national firm, strongly preferred
  • Experience supporting acquisitions, opening balance sheets, or acquisition integrations preferred
  • Hands-on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central experience strongly preferred; comparable mid-market ERP experience considered
  • Power BI or other reporting/analytics tools are a plus
  • Experience leading external audits and working with lenders or other outside stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close across a multi-entity organization
  • Ensure accurate accrual-basis, GAAP-compliant financial statements and compliance with lender covenants
  • Oversee healthcare revenue recognition, including contractual allowances, bad debt reserves, payer mix adjustments, and reimbursement timing
  • Serve as the accounting owner for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, including chart of accounts, workflows, and reporting
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules and maintain an audit-ready general ledger
  • Develop weekly cash flow analyses and support cash strategy discussions with the CFO and ownership/investor groups
  • Lead the annual budgeting process in partnership with operational leadership
  • Lead the annual financial statement audit and coordinate lender, insurance, regulatory, and other external audits
  • Develop and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and reporting processes
  • Support acquisition accounting and integration, including opening balance sheets, purchase accounting, valuation coordination, and implementation of company controls
  • Oversee technical accounting matters including fixed assets, lease accounting under ASC 842, revenue recognition under ASC 606, consolidations, and business combinations
  • Prepare management reporting and ad hoc financial analysis for the CFO and executive leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team
  • Partner closely with billing, revenue cycle, operations, and executive leadership
