About The Position

Elia Grid International (EGI) is seeking an experienced Interconnection Manager to join its U.S.-based infrastructure team. This role will lead the interconnection strategy for major transmission, HVDC/HVAC, renewable integration, and grid infrastructure projects. The position is a blend of technical coordination and development support, involving managing interconnection processes, overseeing system impact and facilities studies, supporting technical negotiations with ISOs/RTOs and utilities, and translating interconnection outcomes into project implications. The Interconnection Manager will be responsible for advancing interconnection activities in line with project strategy, commercial objectives, regulatory frameworks, schedules, costs, and execution readiness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Typically 7+ years of professional experience in interconnection management, transmission planning, grid studies, project development, system operations, utility engineering or related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. power system interconnection processes, ISO/RTO procedures, transmission planning, utility processes, grid connection requirements and project development.
  • Experience managing or supporting interconnection applications, system impact studies, facilities studies, interconnection agreements, technical negotiations or transmission owner coordination.
  • Experience with one or more U.S. ISO/RTO or utility interconnection processes, such as CAISO, NYISO, PJM, ISO-NE, MISO, ERCOT, SPP or relevant utility-led interconnection processes.
  • Good understanding of transmission systems, network upgrades, reliability criteria, power flow studies, substation interfaces, protection requirements, operating constraints and project development risks.
  • Ability to interpret technical study results and translate them into project risks, commercial implications, design requirements, schedule impacts and decision points.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to interact credibly with ISOs/RTOs, utilities, transmission owners, project developers, engineering teams, legal advisors and senior project leadership.
  • Structured, proactive and able to manage complex processes with multiple stakeholders, deadlines, technical dependencies and regulatory interfaces.
  • Fluency in English and willingness to travel within the U.S. and internationally as required.

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Energy Systems or a related discipline.
  • Experience in large-scale transmission, HVDC, renewable energy, storage, offshore wind, data center interconnection or grid infrastructure projects.
  • Experience supporting RFP responses, project development, technical due diligence or investment decision processes.
  • Existing professional network with U.S. ISOs/RTOs, utilities, transmission owners, developers or relevant market participants.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the project’s interconnection strategy, including interconnection applications, study agreements, system impact studies, facilities studies, interconnection agreements, technical assumptions and interface management.
  • Manage and coordinate interconnection processes with ISOs/RTOs, utilities, transmission owners, system operators, project developers and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Support the preparation, submission and follow-up of interconnection requests, study scopes, technical documentation, network upgrade assessments and related agreements.
  • Review system impact studies, facilities studies, network upgrade requirements, cost allocation assumptions, operating constraints, reliability requirements and schedule implications.
  • Advance study outcomes by coordinating internal experts, external consultants, utilities, transmission owners and project stakeholders around clear assumptions, open issues, technical positions and decision points.
  • Support technical negotiations with ISOs/RTOs, utilities and transmission owners, ensuring alignment with project strategy, commercial objectives, regulatory requirements, cost exposure and execution feasibility.
  • Translate interconnection study results into clear project implications, including technical requirements, design impacts, schedule risks, cost exposure, regulatory obligations and mitigation actions.
  • Coordinate closely with HVDC/HVAC leads, system studies experts, project managers, legal advisors, commercial teams and external consultants to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Identify and manage risks related to interconnection queue position, study assumptions, network upgrades, facilities requirements, technical constraints, cost exposure, regulatory obligations and execution schedule.
  • Support RFP responses, project development activities, technical due diligence, investment decision processes and client advisory work by providing clear interconnection strategies, assumptions, risks and recommendations.
  • Contribute to the development of EGI’s U.S. interconnection expertise, methodologies, stakeholder relationships and strategic positioning in key ISO/RTO and utility markets.
  • Ensure that interconnection activities are carried out in accordance with applicable standards, project governance requirements, quality expectations, regulatory requirements and financial objectives.
