About The Position

The client, a global alternative asset manager, is seeking a freelance interactive motion designer with front-end prototyping skills to bring its corporate website to life. The role combines design and front-end development, with a focus on interactive data visualizations, scroll-based storytelling, parallax effects, and microinteractions. The work will be prototyped and handed off to the client’s in-house engineering team for production, with attention to responsive behavior, accessibility, and performance. This is a remote, project-based contract engagement starting at 10–15 hours per week as needed, with flexibility to scale hours according to project workload. The client expects to grow the work in 2027. The role requires availability aligned with EST hours. The rate is $80–95 per hour, and the initial contract is three months.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in interactive, motion, or web design, with a portfolio of live scroll-driven and interactive web experiences.
  • Strong front-end prototyping skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Hands-on experience with web animation libraries such as GSAP/ScrollTrigger or similar.
  • Experience designing interactive data visualizations or charts for the web.
  • Expert-level Figma skills and experience working within an established design system.
  • Understanding of performance-conscious and accessible animation, including reduced-motion preferences, frame rate, and layout stability.
  • Experience handing off motion work to engineering teams with clear, detailed documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and remotely on a flexible, project-based schedule.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on Highcharts experience or experience with other charting libraries such as D3.js or Chart.js.
  • Experience with Lottie, Rive, or other web animation formats.
  • Experience with financial services, corporate, or investor-facing websites.
  • Experience prototyping interactions in Figma Make, Framer, or Webflow.

Responsibilities

  • Design interactive data visualizations for the corporate website, primarily using Highcharts.
  • Design custom scroll-based animations, including scrubbed, triggered, and pinned scroll behaviors, as well as parallax effects and microinteractions.
  • Create production-ready Figma designs at responsive breakpoints of 1440, 1200, 992, 768, and 375 pixels using the client’s design system.
  • Build functional, inspectable prototypes in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript or tools such as Figma Make, Framer, or Webflow, showing scroll behavior and scene entry and exit states.
  • Write animation specifications for engineering that document the motion system, trigger points, scene-by-scene start and end states, durations, scroll distances, and easing.
  • Partner with the client’s internal engineering team through handoff and implementation.
  • Help estimate project timelines and level of effort as the work takes shape.
