About The Position

Join First Resources Corp.'s Intensive Residential Services Home (IRSH) and make a meaningful difference in the lives of adults living with serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI). As Iowa's highest level of community-based residential mental health service, IRSH provides intensive, short-term rehabilitation in a home-like setting. This is more than a typical Direct Support Professional (DSP) role. It's an opportunity to build relationships, teach life-changing skills, and walk alongside people as they learn to live well with a serious mental illness.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year of experience working in mental health, behavioral health, human services, or a related field
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to complete all required training and maintain certifications
  • Satisfactory results on a background check

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Direct Support Professional (DSP) experience
  • Experience supporting individuals with serious mental illness or co-occurring disorders
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days)

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to adults experiencing serious mental illness in a short-term residential rehabilitation program.
  • Build relationships, encourage growth, and celebrate progress.
  • Help individuals build independent living and daily living skills.
  • Help individuals develop healthy coping strategies and emotional regulation skills.
  • Support medication and appointment adherence.
  • Encourage community involvement and healthy routines.
  • Work toward goals identified in their Person-Centered Service Plans (PCSPs).
  • Prepare individuals for a successful transition back into the community.
  • Celebrate successes, help individuals navigate setbacks, and teach skills that promote independence.
  • Document progress.
  • Provide steady, compassionate support during both everyday moments and behavioral health crises using a trauma-informed, recovery-oriented approach.
