About The Position

We are looking to fill a future vacancy for an Intelligent Controls & Automation (ICA) Engineer to join our team in Brantford, Ontario at our Greater Toronto Fulfillment Centre (GTFC). The ICA Technical Engineer is part of the engineering organization to invent, develop, reapply, and deliver breakthrough process and packing technologies within the manufacturing environment. Primarily focused on project execution and delivery, the ICA Technical Engineer will build technical mastery and will provide technical leadership on software and designs, integration of hardware, validation of systems, and commissioning / start-up of equipment. They provide innovative solutions for power, controls and information system platforms, information networks, and digitization to deliver superior and highly efficient process, packaging, production systems at our manufacturing site.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering (or other related degree and/or work-related experience).
  • Skills to program industrial PLC & HMI (Rockwell, Siemens, Omron, Schneider, Eaton, etc.)
  • Ability to read and understand electrical single line drawings, flow sheets, layouts, electrical schematics, and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changes in project scope, schedule, and cost.
  • Strong leadership, business problem definition, and priority setting skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex problems. In-depth root cause problem solving capability.
  • Skills to analyze software related issues.
  • Skills to use electrical diagnostics tools and meters.
  • Ability to perform electrical and instrumentation work following all electrical safety procedures
  • Ability to set standards, role model, coach, teach, and set technical direction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills necessary to interface with vendors, engineering contacts, core teams, and management.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic to intermediate in Essential Capital Systems Management (ECMS) and Engineering Work Process (EWP)
  • Basic to intermediate in electrical sensors and instrumentation skills.
  • Basic to intermediate in motion and process controls skills.
  • Basic understanding of Integrated Work Systems (IWS) methodologies
  • Well versed in P&G Global Electrical Spec, PCP650, and Machine Safety CBAs.
  • Self-motivation – able to perform job with little or no supervision and understand leadership intent and vision.
  • Aptitude to handle a dynamic work environment and to think outside the box.
  • An aptitude for communicating insights and collaborating across teams/organizations to build capability.
  • Experience with computer and industrial networks.
  • Experience in process optimization, data analysis, and process control methodologies.
  • Proven expertise with sensors, motors, PLC’s, and industrial automation
  • Robotics, Machine Vision, and/or Networking skills
  • Programming knowledge and experience (i.e., Python, Ladder Logic, LabVIEW, Java, C#, etc.)
  • Experience with installation, configuration, and integration of less than 1000 volts electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and execution of intelligent controls and automation systems, using PLC/DCS programming, operating interface technology and virtualization technology.
  • Maintains and exemplifies electrical safety best practices and follows all site-specific standards.
  • Identify automation challenges and drive solutions aligned with our "Factory of the Future" vision.
  • Collaborate with the cross-functional teams, including but not limited to operators, engineers, construction personnel, and electricians on defining technical scope of work and identifying contractors to execute projects end to end.
  • Provide technical expertise in areas such as sensors, motors, PLCs, machine vision, networking, and power distribution systems.
  • Uses programming data tools, data acquisition tools, and knowledge to achieve solutions.
  • Deliver programming and integration improvements to drive quality and productivity.
  • Collaborate with regional and global engineering organizations and production sites to share best practices, drive standardization, and benchmark internally/externally to bring up-to-date technology solutions.
  • Develop and maintain electrical and controls technical documentation for area of ownership, including but not limited to design basis, user requirements, schematics, scope, and instructions related to electrical equipment, network architecture, and software design.
  • Eliminate losses by solving issue through root cause analysis and providing feedback to design.
  • Write and execute computer system and electrical equipment validations and test plans.
  • Develop the preventive maintenance strategy for electrical and controls equipment.
  • Prepare operators for maintaining control systems prior to the start of production.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies, digital manufacturing trends, and industry 4.0 advancements to drive continuous improvement in automation systems.
