This Full-time, Permanent Integration Technical Lead role is crucial for driving the design, development, and optimization of secure, real-time backend systems that connect to Vancity's financial platforms at scale. The position combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic guidance to deliver seamless end-to-end solutions, integrating enterprise platforms, APIs, and third-party services. The role reports directly to the Senior Manager, Integration Platform, and offers a hybrid work arrangement, with expectations for on-site presence for events and business demands when needed. While the head office is in Vancouver, candidates from BC and Ontario are welcome to apply.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 12+ years of experience designing and leading high-scale, high-availability backend/API systems.
  • Proven ability to mentor engineers, lead technical discussions, and influence architectural decisions for integration solutions.
  • Proven experience leading development team, technical design and delivery for complex integration initiatives across multiple domains. Deep expertise in API design, backend services, and distributed systems.
  • Strong experience with event‑driven architectures, including messaging, streaming, and asynchronous processing patterns.
  • Hands‑on experience with cloud‑native and serverless architectures, preferably on Microsoft Azure.
  • Strong understanding of security, authentication, authorization, and data protection for APIs and integration platforms.
  • Experience working in regulated or complex enterprise environments (financial services experience is a strong asset).
  • Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading or overseeing migrations from MuleSoft to Azure Integration Services, including defining migration strategy, target architectures, and transition plans across teams.
  • Experience defining and enforcing performance tuning, monitoring, and observability standards across Azure integration platforms, including proactive reliability and cost‑optimization strategies.
  • Experience operating in hybrid integration environments, supporting multiple platforms (e.g., MuleSoft and Azure) during phased modernization or transformation initiatives.
  • Exposure to financial services, banking, or other regulated industries, with an understanding of compliance, auditability, and risk considerations in integration design.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the design and implementation of enterprise‑grade integration solutions, with a strong emphasis on real‑time APIs, backend services, and event‑driven architectures
  • Ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise standards and best practices; API & Backend Expertise Act as the technical authority for API‑first and backend integration design
  • Ensuring seamless End‑to‑End Integration Design, reliable data flow across internal platforms, core systems, and external partners, supporting both synchronous (API) and asynchronous (event/messaging) integrations.
  • Evolving integration standards, reference architectures, and reusable components to drive consistency, quality, and delivery velocity across teams; Standards, Reusability & Governance Develop
  • Executing an integration platform roadmap focused on modernization, performance, reliability, security, and regulatory compliance
  • Leading and mentoring cross‑functional engineering teams through the full integration lifecycle from discovery and design through delivery, release, and operational support
  • Overseeing cross‑functional collaboration partnership closely with Product, Data, Operations, Security, Risk, and Compliance teams to ensure integration solutions meet both technical and business requirements
  • Overseeing vendor‑delivered solutions and external integrations, ensuring architectural alignment, quality, and long‑term maintainability
  • Monitoring, documentation, supportability, and incident management to ensure high availability and regulatory compliance in production environments
