About The Position

D.R. Horton, Inc. is seeking an Integration / API Architect to help create the connective foundation for its modern data, AI, and digital ecosystem. This hands-on architecture role will define reusable API, event, integration, and interoperability patterns that enable systems and data to work together securely and reliably. The architect will simplify complex integration environments, establish modern standards, and build practical patterns that accelerate future digital and AI solutions. Success means systems connect through reusable, well-governed APIs and events, point-to-point integrations decrease, and new digital and AI solutions can connect to enterprise data and systems quickly and safely. The role works with application owners and engineering teams to modernize integrations and expose reusable business capabilities, while evaluating integration platforms and related technologies. The position also participates in cross-functional discovery, architecture, governance, operational readiness, and continuous improvement. The role requires overnight travel.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
8+ years of integration architecture, API engineering, software engineering, middleware, or related experience.
Deep knowledge of REST/GraphQL APIs, event-driven architecture, messaging, authentication/authorization, integration security, and observability.
Experience integrating legacy enterprise applications with cloud, SaaS, data, and modern application platforms.
Strong coding or scripting background and ability to work directly with engineering teams.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership, communicate clearly, and deliver results in an evolving environment.
Ability to build trusted relationships across the organization, balancing enterprise standards with business needs and operating realities.

Nice To Haves

Experience with JDE, Microsoft/Azure integration services, API management, Kafka/event streaming, SaaS integration, MCP (Model Context Protocol) and agent-to-system tool patterns, agent and non-human identity, or comparable technologies.
Experience in homebuilding, real estate, construction, mortgage, title, land development, sales, purchasing, finance, customer care, or another distributed operating business.
Experience working in a large enterprise with complex enterprise environments.
Experience founding, incubating, or building new products, capabilities, or businesses from the ground up.

Responsibilities

Define enterprise API, event, integration, and interface standards and reusable patterns.
Design integrations across legacy and modern systems, SaaS platforms, data services, digital applications, and AI agents.
Establish standards for authentication, authorization, versioning, contracts, error handling, observability, resiliency, and lifecycle management.
Partner with application owners and engineering teams to modernize brittle point-to-point integrations and expose reusable business capabilities.
Evaluate integration platforms, API gateways, messaging/event technologies, and vendor capabilities.
Represent the function in cross-functional discovery, architecture, governance, operational-readiness, and continuous-improvement activities as appropriate.
Stay current on relevant data, AI, digital, software, and industry practices and apply new capabilities when they create practical business value.
Identify, shape, and pilot opportunities where data, AI, and digital capabilities can create business value, with an owner's mindset and a bias toward building, testing, and learning quickly.
Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner.
Travel overnight.
