About The Position

KBR's National Security Solutions team provides high-end engineering and advanced technology solutions to customers in the intelligence and national security communities. In this position, your work will have a profound impact on the country’s most critical role – protecting our national security. KBR is seeking an Integrated Protection Strategy Engineer – Intermediate, to support the development and execution of conjunction assessment and mitigation strategies to ensure the safety of space assets. This role involves analyzing orbital data, assessing collision risks, and coordinating avoidance maneuvers in collaboration with mission operations teams. The engineer will contribute to improving tools and processes for conjunction analysis while maintaining compliance with established standards. Candidates should demonstrate technical proficiency in orbital mechanics and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment. This position provides opportunities for growth into senior technical leadership roles and participation in advanced space safety initiatives. This role is performed full-time on site at a government facility and is contingent upon contract award.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree and 7 years of relevant experience with demonstrated expertise, OR Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of relevant experience with demonstrated expertise, OR No degree and 10 years of relevant experience with demonstrated expertise.
  • Demonstrated experience in orbital mechanics, astrodynamics, or related aerospace engineering disciplines.
  • Proficiency with conjunction assessment tools and orbital propagation software (e.g., STK, FreeFlyer, or equivalent).
  • Active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance with adjudicated polygraph.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with automated collision avoidance systems and space traffic management.
  • Familiarity with international space safety standards and coordination protocols (e.g., CCSDS, ISO).

Responsibilities

  • Perform conjunction assessments using industry-standard tools and models to evaluate collision risk.
  • Analyze orbital data and propagate trajectories to predict potential conjunctions.
  • Support planning and execution of collision avoidance maneuvers in coordination with mission operations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of conjunction assessments, risk evaluations, and maneuver decisions.
  • Assist in developing and refining collision avoidance algorithms and decision-support tools.
  • Participate in anomaly resolution and post-event analysis for conjunction-related incidents.
  • Collaborate with external organizations for data exchange and coordination of avoidance actions.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives for automation and accuracy in collision avoidance systems.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards, regulations, and best practices for space safety.
