About The Position

This position is responsible for managing the check-in of clients, general operations of the Intake area, conducting breath analysis testing, monitoring and supervising clients, maintaining a visible presence, providing accurate written communication, gathering statistical information, completing HMIS Intake Assessment and V1-SPDAT packets, answering telephone calls, conducting facility checks, using radio procedures, providing clients with forms and hygiene items, reviewing shelter rules, taking precautions to prevent facility damage, interacting with other agencies, maintaining safety and security, enforcing house rules, ensuring blanket distribution, contacting management in emergencies, attending staff meetings and training, and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Able to maintain a non-judgmental attitude and a professional approach working with clients
  • Computer literate in MS Office Software
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances
  • Able to handle crisis/emergency situations or services for the homeless and to utilize crisis intervention, crowd management, and conflict resolution skills
  • Experience working with homeless population
  • Ability to assess at-risk participants and situations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Successful background clearance

Responsibilities

  • Manage check-in of clients upon arrival, using proper sign-in procedures, including baggage checking and storage, cell phones, medication, weapons, and any other items using a log sheet accurately
  • Manage general operations of Intake area, and client needs staying in-house, providing information and referrals, medication disbursement, access to luggage and items checked in as needed
  • Conduct breath analysis testing on all clients entering the shelter and any suspected to be intoxicated, using a breathalyzer device, determining eligibility to receive housing based on the results of BAC level
  • Position will work independently with minimal direct supervision during shift. Because of this, excellent documentation will be required and checked against surveillance footage randomly
  • Monitor and supervise clients, investigate and report activity and incidents appropriately, or as needed to emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel, according to established guidelines
  • Maintain a visible presence at all times in the facility to deter criminal mischief
  • Provide accurate and thorough written communication in the (IR) Incident Report Log
  • Book for management and other staff review
  • Gather statistical information from participant sign-up sheets, laundry, church, and client registration and enter into HMIS, as well as other various services provided to clients during all stays
  • Complete HMIS Intake Assessment, V1-SPDAT packets on any clients arriving as requested
  • Answer incoming telephone calls
  • Implement a minimum of 2 regular facility, dorm, and restroom checks, documenting times and any activity
  • Use proper radio procedures in conjunction with partnering staff and custodians on duty for various needs
  • Provide clients with requested forms, i.e., grievance, laundry, etc.
  • Provide hygiene items, i.e., shampoo, razors, body wash, towels, as needed
  • Review shelter rules and policies and procedures with clients as necessary or questions arise
  • Take necessary precautions with clients to prevent damage to the facility
  • Interact with other agencies providing guidance and direction for special circumstances of clients, arriving by police escort, or released from the hospital
  • Maintain safety and security of clients and staff, monitoring front doors, allowing access only to authorized persons
  • Enforce all house rules, regulations, & policies
  • Ensure blanket distribution box stays supplied at the outside front door beginning at 9 pm
  • Contact the Program Manager when there is an emergency, following the chain of command contact list in manager absence
  • Attend all staff meetings and relevant training seminars as directed
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor as it relates to the position of Intake Worker
