About The Position

The Salvation Army Hope Center in Stevens Point provides basic needs for individuals and families, including food, clothing, shelter, and household items. The Intake Worker (Shelter Advocate) supports the Intake Worker Director by supervising and processing client intakes, maintaining security, and offering supportive services within a Christian environment. This role involves conducting interviews, assigning rooms, distributing supplies, ensuring adherence to shelter rules, monitoring client needs, handling phone calls, cleaning, preparing meals, updating logs, conducting room inspections, distributing medications, and supervising volunteers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with the homeless population desirable

Responsibilities

  • Conducts intake interviews of incoming residents into shelter
  • Assigns a proper room and distributes needed bedding and personal items
  • Provides necessary supervision of shelter and residents, assuring that rules and policies are being followed
  • Maintains an awareness of client needs
  • Answers telephone calls, taking messages when appropriate
  • Cleans shelter areas as necessary
  • Prepares snacks for shelter residents
  • Oversees lunch and dinner preparations in dining room
  • Reviews log book and updates entries as needed
  • Performs room inspections
  • Distributes medications as needed
  • Supervises volunteers and community service workers, when assigned
