About The Position

The Behavioral Wellness Center at Girard is a leader in providing behavioral health and substance use disorder services in Philadelphia. We deliver trauma informed, evidence-based care in a culturally responsive environment. Our Behavioral Intake Unit serves as the first point of contact for many patients, and we are seeking dependable professionals to support this critical function. The Intake Worker / Driver supports the admissions process by managing referrals, completing patient registration, and providing transportation services as needed. This is a front-line role ideal for individuals with strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to improving access to behavioral health services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of two years of experience in healthcare admissions, behavioral health, or a related field
  • Previous experience with intake, referral processing, or patient transport is required
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for the past three years
  • No DUI convictions within the past five years
  • Current auto insurance required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic health record systems
  • Ability to work independently and handle sensitive situations professionally
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA, insurance verification, and intake documentation standards

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree preferred
  • Knowledge of addiction treatment and behavioral healthcare systems is a plus
  • May be required to complete a driving assessment
  • Bilingual English and Spanish preferred but not required
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Excellent time management and multitasking abilities

Responsibilities

  • Greet and register incoming patients and referrals in a professional and timely manner
  • Collect and verify insurance, demographic, and clinical intake information
  • Coordinate with physicians, nursing staff, and referral sources to ensure appropriate placement
  • Obtain patient consent forms and maintain accurate documentation in the Electronic Health Record
  • Assist with screenings and intake assessments under supervision
  • Provide transportation for patients, staff, and lab specimens as needed
  • Maintain communication with external agencies regarding placement and admissions
  • Operate hospital vehicles safely and report any vehicle issues promptly
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and hospital policies
