This position is responsible for providing daily care, monitoring, medications, and treatments for animals. The role involves performing examinations, preventative medical care, and accurately identifying illness and injury across various breeds and species. Key duties include performing venipuncture, administering injections, conducting diagnostic testing, and evaluating animals for health and behavioral issues. The Vet Tech will report observed issues to the Shelter Veterinarian, maintain cleanliness of assigned areas, and provide animal husbandry education. Accurate management of medical records, inventory control, and equipment maintenance are also essential. The role requires representing the Humane Society of North Texas with compassionate customer service and protecting confidential information. Additional tasks may be assigned by a supervisor. For those certified in euthanasia, responsibilities include knowledge of controlled substance handling, performing euthanasia according to procedures, and respectful body preparation or disposal.
